Today (Feb. 3), the 8th game of the ranking league for the Meijinsen was played. The results are as follows:

* Takahashi 9-dan defeated Inoue 8-dan
* Kimura 8-dan defeated Moriuchi 9-dan
* Fujii 9-dan defeated Satou 9-dan
* Miura 8-dan defeated Tanigawa 9-dan
* Maruyama 9-dan defeated Gouda 9-dan

With a score of 1 win 7 losses, Yasumitsu Satou 9-dan will drop from A-Class to B1-Class.

With a score of 6 wins and 2 losses, Hiroyuki Miura 8-dan is in the top spot in A-Class.

The 81-Square Universe has launched a new blog, Ki-ou Blog @ 81-Square Universe. We’ll be covering news of the 35th Ki-ou Title Match there, so be sure to check it out.

Recently, Kota-san of the 81-Square Universe Forum have been in charge of making a great prototype for the website; Hidetchi-san and few others also have been helping in the development and testing processes. Although the program has not finished its testing stage, our members are free to register and try out it as a beta, and hopefully will also report any bugs and glitches if any are found. You may read about the development of the program here. We’ll keep you updated, or you may also watch that forum topic.

You may have noticed that some of our pages seem to be missing since we switched to this new layout.  They still exist, but I’m still in the process of transferring them to the new layout, as well as creating new diagrams and new sections of the site.  We will soon have a “Shogi World” section, which will feature an explanation of all three parts of the Shogi World: Amateur, Professional, and Lady Professional.  In the meantime, you can view the constantly-updated articles about professional shogi on Shogipedia.

In addition to my progress on making pages for the website, Hidetchi and Kota have been working on making a new shogi playing site – right here on The 81-Square Universe! You can view the discussions and progress about this in the forum thread New online playing website. If you have any opinions or input, feel free to join the forum and add to the discussion.

Hey everyone.

You may have noticed that the 81-Square Universe has gone through a big change.  In order to make the site more appealing and professional, we have updated the look and even added new features (such as the Weekly Tsume service).  You will also be able to access all the sections of the site from our new top bar, which features drop down menus.  We hope you enjoy the new look of the website.
